Oil maintenance

Oil Level meausurement:

1.a.   Place the motorcycle on the center-stand. Warm up the engine for several minutes.
         Be sure the motorcycle is positioned strainght up when checking the oil level. A slight tilt toward the side can
         result in false readings.
1.b.) With the engine stopped, check the oil level through the level windows (photo 5) located at the lower part of
         the left side crakcase cover (photo 2). Note :  wait a few minutes until the oil level settles before checking.
1.c.)  the oil level should be between the maximum and minimum marks (photo 5). If the level is low, add sufficient
         oil to raise it the proper level.

2.)     Engine oil and oil filter replacement:

2.a.) Warm up the engine for a few minutes.
2.b.) Stop the engine. Place an oil pan under the engine, and remome the oil filler cap (photo 3).
2.c.) Remove the drain plug and drain the oil (photo 2).
2.d.) Remove the oil filter bolt and filter element. (Photo6)
2.e.) Reinstall the drain plug (make sure it is tight ).(photo2)
2.f. ) Install the new oil filter element, new O-ring(s), and the filler cover; tighten the oil filter bolt. Note: Make sure
        the O-ring is seated properly.(photo 6)
2.g.) fill engine with oil, install the oil filler cap and tighten. (photo 1)

Recommended oil:

30'F to 40'F = SAE 10w30 type SE motor oil.
30'F to 60'F = SAE 20w40 type SE motor oil.
Change motor oil every:  3800 mi or 6 month
Oil filter  :  every twelve month (12) or every two oil change.

Caution:

Do not put in any chemical additives. Engine oil also lubricates the clutch and  additives could cause clucth slippage.

Wipe off with a clean cloth residue off old oil on external parts.

Be sure no foreig material enters the crankcase.

2.h.) Start the engine and warm up a few minutes. While warming up, check for oil leakage. If oil leakage is found,
        stop the engine immediately, and check the cause.
2.i.) After engine is started, the oil level indicator light should go off if oil is filled to proper level.

Caution:

If the(photo 4)  indicator  light flickers or remain ON immediately stop the engine and consult a Yamaha dealer or other qualified mechanic.

CAUTION :

If your bike is equip with  motor protection bars  you should loose the right bar, the one who pass in front of  the oil filter cover (photo 3) , that with allow you to insert the "Allen Key" to remove the oil filter cover.
